1. Spend more time with your kids.
If you work outside the home or have children who are involved in sports or other extracurricular activities, it can be difficult to spend quality time with them. If you are short on time, start small. Set aside about 15 minutes to read a book, play a game, or talk with your child. If possible, try to come up with a fun family night where the whole family can bond.
2. Participate in school or daycare events.
Due to hectic lives and busy schedules, most parents just drop off and pick up their kids from school or daycare. As a New Year's resolution, why not participate in school or daycare events at least four times a year? Does your child's kindergarten class put on a small play during the school day? Ask to take a few hours off from work to participate.
3. Organize your child's belongings.
Whether you're the parent of a toddler or a teenager, you've probably accumulated a lot of kid stuff in your house. You may have a collection of old toys, clothes, books, movies, and more. Try to organize these items. If you plan to have more children, organize, box, label, and store them. If you don't think you need the items anymore, donate them, sell them on eBay.com or Cragslist.org, or hold a yard sale.
4. Get some rest.
It may seem contradictory to your New Year's resolution to spend more time with your kids, but most mothers are not just mothers, they are supermoms. Non-parents, and even fathers, are surprised to learn how much mothers do. So make sure you give yourself a break. Read a new book once a month, or go to a spa once a month. Why not make it a New Year's resolution to take a break?
5. Ask for help.
As mentioned earlier, many moms are supermoms and do it all. Sure, some would say that's a mother's responsibility, but it's also a mother's responsibility to take care of herself. So don't be afraid to ask for help from time to time. As a New Year's resolution, I encourage you to do so. For example, ask your husband or live-in partner to watch the kids while you do some shopping or splurge. Another option is to ask a close friend or family member to do this for you, or hire a babysitter.
6. Pay special attention to your relationship.
Many people say that having children makes a romantic relationship less important. While it's true that children should be your top priority in all aspects of your life, don't let your personal relationship fail you. To do this, schedule a date once a month and kiss a few times to keep your spirits up.
7. Spend time with your friends.
Use your best judgment when it comes to spending time with your friends. You and your college friends may be at different places in your lives. Don't want to go bar hopping at night? Suggest lunch or coffee instead. If you must, try to develop new friendships with people who share your interests. Start by joining a community group for parents.
8. Learn to let go.
As a mother, you may want to make sure that everything in your life is perfect. You may want to make sure that everything in your life is perfect: that your children are healthy, that they are getting good grades, that you are making enough money, that the house is clean, etc. But you may not want to worry about the little things. But let's not worry about the small things. Are you tired of doing the dishes? Don't worry if the sink is full of dishes, if it's only for one night, do it in the morning.
